Iloilo in Its Grandeur

If we talk about tourist’s spots, Iloilo is one the places that a lot of travellers visit most in the Philippines. The authentic beauty of various ancestral houses, historical old churches and plazas, the many resorts and beaches, the unique designs of architecture that depicts the buildings and creations of Ilonggo architects and artists; these are just some of the places that every tourists will enjoy.

Iloilo is located in the western part of the Visayan region in the Philippines. This province is bordered in its northern part by the province of Capiz and Jintotolo Channel and to the west by Antique. Iloilo is actually located on the south-eastern portion of the island

Iloilo is frequently visited by a variety of tourists, either to locals or foreigners; they just love the people, the food, and most especially the places to visit.

The cultural heritage of Ilonggos is really visible to this day because of the landmarks that connotes the Spanish Regime in the city and in the province. At the heart of its city, there are various popular landmarks: Fort San Pedro, Museo Iloilo, Muelle Loney, Plaza Libertad, Jaro and Arevalo plazas. You can have also the chance to see the so called Iloilo Laguda Mansion Ruins which is along the way to Fort San Pedro.

Other cultural places that are worth visiting in the province and city of Iloilo are the Belfry in Jaro, Magdalena Jalandoni’s ancestral house, Kuta watchtower, Taytay Boni, Rosendo Mejica Museum, Imbidayan Rock, and Guimbal watchtowers.

Aside from cultural places, there are natural tourist spots which can be considered as one of a kind. Here are the several places that nature lovers may be interested of: Nadsadjan Falls in Igbaras, Cataan Cove at san Joaquin, Tinagong Dagat in the northern part of Iloilo, Isla de Gigantes, Sicogon Island, Darangkulan waterfall, Mt. Napulak, Mt. Pan de Azucar and Mt. Manaphag, Bolobadiangan Island and other Concepcion beaches and islands, Ardemil Valley at Sara, an Joaquin beaches, Sinuhutan Cave and Binugsukan Falls in Miag-ao.

Those who love to visit churches will like it here. You can see a lot of old churches all over the city. The Miag-ao Church, Jaro Cathedral, and almost all the churches in the different towns of Iloilo are historically and religiously considered as the main spots of the province.
